curiousboys (edited) (vic)The Dalits, India’s so-called “Untouchables,” are history’s longest standing oppressed people. The name Dalit means “crushed” or “broken.” Today, there are an estimated 250 million Dalits in India being subjected to harsh and inhumane treatment, including trafficking into bonded labor, the sex trade and organ harvesting, and tens of millions of these whom are outright enslaved.

Now, a “Declaration of Empathy” is being extended to the Dalits by several prominent African American Legacy Families, themselves descendants of those whom directly experienced unspeakable degradation and brutality during the dark days of American slavery. They wish to voice their own concern and empathy for those families in India suffering the misery of being trapped in this modern-day slavery.
